This year I had the great opportunity to be the student for change comity president. To me, it came with a lot of responsibility since I wanted to be as great as my predecessors, Julius Grippo, Hadiatou Diallo and Pascaline Goumou.
The first semester was rocky as I had to learn everything on the spot, we made a budget and started planning activities. We got stronger and stronger as presidents. Wanqi Huang was the other president and we really complimented each other.
Our first official event was the indigenous orange shirt day fundraiser where we sold baked goods in order to donate money to an indigenous organization in Montreal. We raised over 200$ and the support of our members was incredible, it would have not happened without them.
We then had our first Chinese new year celebration at cisa where we casted a movie, made some dumpling in the residence kitchen and gave away tons of delicious snacks & of course red pockets. The best moments were spent with our members cooking, laughing and trying to make the event work!
Two months later, we had our annual black history month event and this year we went along the lines of the Chinese new year event and we put the movie coming to America, then gave away some Jamaican patties (I spent 5 hours in the kitchen for these) and had a little questionnaire ready.
The event went incredibly well and the snacks left our table to fast.
Our last official event of the year was our iftar. Over 40 student stayed until 9pm at school on a Friday night to share a meal altogether, do some calligraphy art and have henna on their hands. That night was so magical. Thank you so much Manal for making this possible, you worked so hard on this project.
Now that my time is over, i am so excited to see what the next president Darlene has in store!
SFC IS THE BEST COMITY
